Otter-ly Complete!

This week is all about finishing a sewing pattern test, progress on my knitting project and another sample bag for my upcoming workshop.
Otter-ly Complete!

Hello!šŸ‘‹

Hope you have been keeping well!

I canā€™t believe the first term of school has already come to an end! And  I didnā€™t even register that until Wednesday!

So it kind of came as a shock!šŸ˜‚

Luckily I finished the Fairwyn pattern test I was working on for The Petite Dressmaker.

This is one of the best fitting bodices I have ever made and all down to some simple changes I had never really done before.

I simply did a small bust adjustment and lowered a dart that was sitting at the neckline.

Going forward I will be making small bust adjustments in garments that are more form fitting, I canā€™t believe I never did one until now. Unbelievable!

This is just a reminder that we arenā€™t all built in the same way and we may have to make one or more adjustments to the clothes we make ourselves. After all, we are making garments from a bodice block that isnā€™t our own.

Isnā€™t this why we make our own clothes? For them to fit us and not us in them?

Anyway, there is a whole lot of skirt in here and the dress feels quite heavy.

I used a pale pink bed sheet, which I am assuming is a polycotton blend, and the main fabric is a cotton poplin with a cute otter print that I got from Pound Fabrics a couple of years ago.

The Petite Dressmaker is planning to release this pattern the week starting the 27th of October, so keep your eyes peeled. šŸ‘€

I just want to remind you that her patterns are drafted for a bust sizes ranging between 29.9 to 50.4 inches, you get 2 different cup sizes and 2 different heights.

I also started working on another sample bag for my upcoming Quilted Bag workshop on the 3rd of November.

I once again raided my large fabric scrap pile and found fabrics that I thought would work well together.

4.jpg

For the first bag, I used 3 different prints and a solid for the bottom.

For this one, I am using 4 different prints and will not be doing a solid base.

I just love being able to make whatever goes through my mind without any limitations! And this is why I want to teach others to sew as well.

To create unique projects that can be bought nowhere in the world! šŸ˜€

This week I should be able to complete the whole bag and I will probably be adding some handles too, because why not?

I am still writing up the step-by-step instructions for this as I go and this is taking up a lot of time, but I am enjoying the whole process.

As for my knitting project, the Bi-Colour Snuggle Sweater (this is quite a long name donā€™t you think šŸ˜…) by Anxious Girl Knits has had very little work done to it this week.

5.jpg

I managed to knit about 10 or so rows on the second sleeve in the Pebble Haze Aran Limestone colour.

I have been rethinking the look of the first sleeve and I donā€™t quite like how much of a bubble it actually looks like.

6.jpg

Is it just me or does it look a bit funny? šŸ˜‚

I am probably going to do the second sleeve a little differently and see what it looks like and go from there.

One way or another, I am going to be frogging one of the sleeves to make it the same as the one I like the most.

Because not much progress was done on this sweater this week, I never really thought about yarn for my next project, or really even what I am going to do firstā€¦ a cardigan or a pair of socks. šŸ¤”

I actually wrote this newsletter quite early this week , because at the last minute, my partner decided to go to Portugal for the weekend and I decided to take the kids to London on Friday to visit my sister.

Why am I telling you this at this point in the newsletter?

Well, I want to take a knitting project to London, a small one, probably socks.

I have yet to decide on what yarn I want to use and check that I have the correct size needles, but that is the plan for now.
