Polka dots, Sprinkles and Daisies!
Hello!👋
Hope you have been keeping well!
This week has just flown by! 😱
Probably because of all the excitement of the final pieces of my studio being put together!!
So an update on that:
I painted some accents on 3 of the 4 walls! 🤭
I did want to paint on all 4, but decided at the end to leave the wall where the window is because one, there isn’t much wall, and two, it is most probably going to be covered by curtains and furniture anyway.
The other 3 walls are covered in polka dots, sprinkles and daisies!! 🤩
I know it is probably a bit much for some, including my partner, but I LOVE IT, and personally I feel it should be in a magazine. 😂
The room looks so much better in real life than any photos can capture and I cannot wait to get creative in this space!
And now with the start of school, I can’t wait to sit in my new studio and get crafting! I don’t yet have all the furniture I want, but I will get these last bits slowly. One thing that I definitely feel I need to get in soon, is a filing cabinet to store my sewing patterns.
I have been on the hunt for one of these for a while, so now that I have the space to put it up, I can actually go forward and buy one.
Not that anyone is counting, but I thought it would be interesting for me to note how many of each accent has been painted on the walls. And if you are like me and like to see some things in numbers, here it goes:
Polka Dots:
17 Green
15 Yellow
19 Purple
Sprinkles:
20 Purple
19 Pink
25 Green
Daisies:
10 Pink
9 Green
I am also pleased to say that I have finally started knitting up the yarn that Wool Warehouse sent out to me like a month ago now. 😅
I chose to do something different than the original plan and went with the Tilly Turtle Sweater by KnitStitchRepeat.
I made one of these a while ago in red and baby blue and I am not keen on the texture of the yarn, so want to add another version to my wardrobe.😊
This will be finished in no time, as the pattern suggests holding 3 strands of yarn together, so it builds up very quickly.
😎Confidence Corner:
Sewing is a journey and not a destination!
When I first started sewing clothes, I was happy to be finishing a garment nearly everyday, whether it was for me or one of my family. But if I look at MY wardrobe now, not one of those pieces are part of it.
It served to learn a lot and improve my skills,and it also taught me to take it easy now.
I have come to realize that the process of making is just as enjoyable as seeing the finished product. Realizing this gave me the confidence to take my time and make more complex projects like jackets, trousers and collars. Also, taking the time to choose what I think will be the right fabric for it is key to wanting to wear it later.
Taking my time to think and choose what patterns to combine with which fabrics has allowed my personal style to evolve over the years and I am excited to see where I go with it.
🧵Today's Sewing Tip:
Study clothing in shops, museums and even your wardrobe to get a better understanding of how garments are constructed and for ideas to improve your sewing.
You will be able to learn more about fabric choices(check the content label too), sewing techniques, and finishing methods used.
By exploring clothing this way, you will improve your understanding on how garments are stitched together and it will probably spark some creativity in your own sewing projects!
⭐My Favourite Things This Week:
- Starting a new knit project;
- Building all the furniture for my studio;
- Slowly getting all my yarn and fabrics back into the studio.
🗓️Upcoming Plans
- Wet block my purple Corinthian Sweater (still haven’t found the time to do this 😵);
- Continue to work on my current knit project;
- Get my sewing studio sorted and ready to work in.
🎬What I have been Watching/Reading:
- OUTLIVE, The Science & Art of Longevity by DR. Peter Attia (Book)
I am still reading this book, and probably will for the foreseeable future. I have just over 300 pages left to read, and if I can only manage to read 10 pages a week…this is still going to take me another 6 months to finish. 😂
This week I read about metabolic health and how our body consumes/stores fat.
- Files of the Unexplained (Docuseries)
There are 8 episodes telling of the investigations and mysteries surrounding some odd and unexplained events, most of which are blamed on aliens, ghosts or other paranormal happenings.
- UNLOCKED A Jail Experiment (Reality Documentary )
A sheriff tries to introduce more freedom and responsibilities for those incarcerated in a detention facility.
