MY NEW WEBSITE IS LIVE!😍
Getting the Roma Necessaire printed how I want it to look has been a difficult task.
And it would have helped if I had not left it until this late. 😑
I have decided to just go ahead without it and have it just as a PDF pattern for now.
Which means you can now get your hands on my first ever sewing pattern, the Roma Necessaire! 😃
I would appreciate it if you could go have a nosey on the website and tell me if anything doesn’t look right or if something is not working.
There will be a few changes going forward since it’s a new website.
You will now be able to book your place on my Sew & Bond sewing social events directly on the website.

Since I have changed websites, the new one doesn’t support how I have been sending out my newsletters. What this means is, I can only send out part of the newsletter via email, but the full newsletter will be available on the website.
A new sewing project is in progress! 😀
I keep on reaching for the same three to four trousers and skirts I have, and I think it’s time to add to that selection.
And since we are heading for the warmer months, I decided to make a start on a skirt.
The Sabina Skirt from The Little Pomegranate.
If you are unfamiliar with it, definitely check it out because it is a free download.
I made one before exactly as the pattern was designed in a white polka dot on black background cotton poplin.
But I don’t actually reach for it much.
I am not sure if it’s because the cotton poplin is a bit too stiff for it, if it’s the bottom ruffle I am not enjoying or what.
So I am making some changes to this one.
I had some viscose fabric left over from making my daughter’s teacher’s skirt last year (which was the Sabina Skirt too 😅) that I felt I needed to use for this next version.
I am leaving the ruffle off, but using its length to add to the bottom of the skirt so it’s longer.
I also want to add side slits so this time I have marked them already on the fabric so I don’t forget…like I usually do.
This week, all I managed was to cut out all the pattern pieces and attach the pockets to the front skirt piece.
And I had just enough fabric left to cut out 3 long rectangles to make a scrunchie each for me and my daughter’s.
I still have to make these and I may get them to help me because they are now on school holidays for two weeks and my youngest has chicken pox. 😅
Going back to the Sabina Skirt, have you made one before? What did you think of it?

I can finally try on the bodice of my purple Gumdrops Sweater!
And it was when I tried it on that I realised I had missed crocheting the red rows at the front! 😅
Aside from that, the more I look at how the colours are playing together, the more I love it. 😍
I have started working on one sleeve and am trying to figure out how to get the stripes from the bodice to match with the stripes I am going to knit for the sleeves.
I want them all to match right across so it pleases me visually.
Since the colours are quite bold, it will bug me if they don’t match.
Next week my focus will be to work on one sleeve including crocheting rows on the front bodice, however I definitely won’t have enough red and pink yarn to do it all.
I need to get an extra skein (which I still haven’t gotten around to) of Yarnsmiths Merino DK in the pink and red. What I have will not be enough to even manage half the sleeve, so I need to get onto ordering it quickly!
This Week's Tip:
Gathering with Elastic
Last week’s tip was how to gather with a cord. This week, let’s have a look at another gathering technique, doing it with elastic.
For the example I have made today, my elastic is ½ inch wide.
I lengthened the width of my zigzag stitch to cover most of the width of the elastic and I lengthened the stitch length too so they were a little more spaced out.
If you are using another width of elastic, test your zigzag stitch on a scrap to see how it comes out before applying to your project.
If you are gathering to a specific measurement, the best thing to do is divide the elastic evenly to the length of the fabric where it is going before sewing it on.
Place the fabric with the elastic on top underneath the presser foot. Sew a stitch or two to hold the elastic in place before pulling on it.
Now pull on the elastic as you sew.
The more the elastic is stretched, the more gathers you will have.
The less the elastic is stretched, the less gathers it will have.
And that’s it, once the elastic goes back to its shape, it will gather the fabric.
