A new pair of socks!

Hello, hello!

Hope you have been having a lovely summer because I sure am!

We’ve been going to the beach basically every morning and sometimes going to another in the afternoon just to keep cool.

For the first time ever, I went to, not one, but three manmade beaches in the Alentejo region.

I must say that I prefer a sea beach with small waves where the water is moving and not just stale.

We’ve visited a few towns and monuments too that neither me or my partner had ever seen after years of living in central Portugal.

And all this has been in the Alentejo region.

We’ve seen churches, castles and forts, visited old towns and had food in highly recommended restaurants in various areas.

My sewing machine came for the ride too but I couldn’t do much because the house we stayed in didn’t have an iron.

The next steps on my all the projects I brought with were pressing bias binding, ties and seams and I couldn’t do any of it.

Now that we’re back at my in-law’s, I’ve pressed quite a few bits ready for another 2-night trip tomorrow.

Next we are going north to the Porto area with my father-in-law and although he knows he is coming, he doesn’t yet know where to.😂

I’m taking the sewing machine again, along with a Leah top and dress to work on so hopefully I get a few more bits done.

I have yet to make a start on the Matchy Matchy Bow skirt.

Stitches of the Week

New Look 6518

This outfit had an outing and I have a few things to say about it.

If I were to make this again, it would definitely be with changes.

So the button loops at the back of the top instead of buttonholes worked out really well.

I did feel it was too short though. I would have liked an exra inch to the peplum to cover the top of the trousers.

Then the fabric choice...I knew polyester would make me feel hot in it, but not to the extent I felt.

It is definitely not a fabric that I would choose ever again to make something summery in. Plus with temperatures here reaching 40° here, I mean, what was I thinking.😵💫

I couldn’t even think straight in it so I didn’t even remember to take a photo. Here is a

Size: Top - size 6, trousers - size 10

The Drama: I felt like a greenhouse in it, I was sweating!

Summer Lee - Soma Socks from The Sock Project book  

This is a sock record finish for me!

These were such a nice, enjoyable, easy knitting project to carry around.

And even though I wasn’t too keen on the colour of the yarn, it has grown on me and I think they look really nice now.

The details that I thought wouldn’t show through the yarn actually do when worn, so I’m happy.😁

But I did make a few mistakes that are visible.

I got distracted a few times and I missed out a purl row on each sock, and I missed out on one of the cables on one side.

Anyway, they are finished and I like how they look.

Yarn: King Cole Zig Zag in colour Berries

Size: L for the legs down to an M for foot.

Needle Size: Cast on with 2.5mm, knit one row and transferred to 2.25mm for the rest.

The Drama: Some mistakes were made.😅

The Win: Finished quicker than what I thought I would.

Summer Lee - Colourblocked Ribbed Socks from The Sock Project book 

I started a new pair of socks!

I was hoping to get new yarn here to make them in but I have yet to find somewhere that sells what I want.

I just want solid coloured yarn that’s not neutral colours.

I’m glad I packed an extra skein in the bag, but I didn’t have time to cake them into 2 equal balls before leaving. I hand-wound them on the beach yesterday.

I’m going for a simple ribbed sock because the yarn has a lot going on and any extra design details may take away from it.

Yarn: Hobbii

Size: Started with an L.

Needle Size: Cast on with 2.5mm, knit one row and transferred to 2.25mm for the rest.

The Win: I love the purple tones on this yarn.
