Creative Sewing Workshop Highlights

Bianca Silva

What a fantastic creative day!

For this workshop, I decided to do things a little differently.

Instead of preparing pre-designed kits, I wanted to see where everyone’s creativity would lead them. It was exciting to hand over the design decisions and let each participant shape their own unique outcome.

We spent the first part of the day, around 45 minutes or so, exploring and choosing materials.

Colour palettes, prints, zips, zip pulls, webbing, and lining combinations all had to be considered. It’s always interesting to realise just how many creative decisions go into making a single handmade item when you slow the process down and really think it through.

That’s the beauty of handmade work: the freedom to design something completely personal and one of a kind.

Interestingly, despite all the choice available, most of the group naturally gravitated toward similar styles and colour combinations. It created a lovely sense of cohesion in the room, while still allowing everyone’s individual details to shine through.

We’re missing a couple of people from the group photo, but the day was relaxed, focused, and full of quiet creativity. A really enjoyable atmosphere from start to finish.

Once again, thank you to Janome for the amazing support and partnership.

Next Workshop

The next workshop will take place on 17th July and this time we’ll be shifting from bag making into dressmaking. More details coming soon - stay tuned! ❤️
