Join the Sewing Challenge That Could Save Your Life!

It’s here! #sewbloodpressure25 kicks off today, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring this community challenge back for its third year!

What started as a small idea has grown into something that means so much more. It is a way for us as makers to take care of ourselves while doing what we love.

So, What Is #sewbloodpressure25?

Throughout the month of June, I’m inviting you to:

- Work on one project that’s been sitting on your sewing list for too long;
- Get your blood pressure checked.

That’s it. Two things.

One creative, one health-focused and both important.

Why Am I Doing This?

In January 2023, my dad passed away suddenly.

It was my parent's 34th wedding anniversary.

An autopsy later revealed that the cause was related to undiagnosed and untreated high blood pressure, something many people don’t realize can be life-threatening.

What made it even more heart-breaking was knowing that he had a doctor’s appointment scheduled, just four weeks away, to start a treatment plan.

I never thought something like blood pressure could take someone so suddenly. But it did.

And that’s why this challenge exists.

I started #sewbloodpressure25 not just to honour his memory, but to help others avoid the same risk.

High blood pressure is often symptomless, you don’t feel sick.

You might feel fine.

But it’s quietly doing damage, and unless you check it, you might never know.

Why This Challenge Matters

As sewists, we are list-makers by nature. (I know I am!)

We have all got a queue of projects waiting patiently for their moment, maybe the pattern looked too complex, or the fabric never felt quite right, or life just got in the way.

This challenge is about finally tackling that project.

Not for pressure, not for perfection, but because finishing something we have put off feels amazing.

But more than that, this challenge is about raising awareness around high blood pressure, a silent health risk that many people don’t realize they have until it’s too late.

Getting your blood pressure checked is quick, easy, and could quite literally save your life.

So let’s take care of ourselves together, in the way we know best, right? Sewing and community.
