An Exciting Workshop!

Hello, hello!

Hope you are having a lovely Easter weekend!

I realised this week that my newsletter is 2 years old! 🥳

When I started writing it was really tough being able to keep up with it every week, I cried many times doubting I could. 

I am so glad I kept it up, with the support of my partner, and now I have come to know so many of you through here and in real life.

This week my kids started school holidays and our outdoor adventures continue.

This weekend we climbed Kinder Scout in Edale and what a gorgeous climb it was. It wasn’t steep, but it was a rocky climb with streams and some muddy parts.

Both kids fell, we had some injuries and some crying, but they kept strong and climbed all the way up without complaining.

The views were gorgeous, there were lots of people climbing too and it was freezing at the top.

This is a climb I will definitely do again.

Right after doing this climb, we drove to Mam Tor and went to the top of the hill too, but I had had enough of the cold wind and we came straight down.

BeeSilva - Lisbon Organiser

I love this bag! 😍

I get so excited thinking about all the different combinations I can make it in and I had to get this version out of my head.

A few weeks ago I bought boucle fabric specifically for this bag and this week I got the time to make it.

I wanted to get it done in time for the Janome workshop to show how different the bag looks made up in different fabrics.

For this version, I decided to lengthen the straps to see how it would serve as a handbag and it turned out pretty good!

It can be used with both straps on one shoulder, or one strap can be removed and the remaining one can be hooked on either side of the bag for a crossbody bag.

I love how versatile it is and it is not the last one I am making.

I will be releasing this pattern soon so you can make one for yourself too! 😀

 

BeeSilva - Multi-Purpose Quilted Organiser Workshop

My first bag design ever, the Lisbon Organiser, had its first workshop! 😀

You know it took me days to prepare the kits for this all inclusive workshop, and it came and went by in a flash.

I was slightly nervous about everyone opening their boxes. We all have different tastes and I combined all the fabric and hardware according to my taste - what looked good to me.

I did cut extra pattern pieces in case someone really didn’t like something I had put in the box but each one went down really well.

Only a couple of people changed a piece in their box so that is a great outcome!

Every single box was different, from the main fabric to all the lining pieces. Fabric combinations were out of this world and seeing them sewn together was so exciting!!

It is a pretty complex bag with lots of interfacing, fabric pieces, 4 zippers, binding, and quilting and it was a lot of work to get done in 6 hours.

I can’t wait now to see everyone put their organisers to use. Mine has served me so well for my sewing tools since I first made it two years ago, they have not left it since.

It was so exciting running this workshop this week at Janome, I’m looking forward to the next one in a couple of weeks!

 

Summer Lee - Surf Wax Socks from The Sock Project book

We are nearly at the finish line! 🎉

I am so over these. 🙃

My partner mentioned to me this week that he doesn’t like the colours of the cuff with the rest of the sock and I think he is right.

I shouldn’t have added the blue, I should have just made the whole cuff in cream like the heel and how I’m going to finish the toes.

When I put all the skeins together before starting they looked really good together, but it didn’t turn out so.

There will be a project every now and again questioning your choices and this is one of them.

I just have to finish the toes now which includes a whole bunch of decreases and grafting them closed but I hope that next week I can report back to you that they are done!

Yarn: Drops Fabel, yarn I got from Portugal and Hobbii Silly Socks Flower Pop in colour 10 (Forget-Me-Not)

Size: L for the leg and reduced to an M for the foot.

Needle Size: I cast on with a 2.5mm and then transferred to 2.25mm.

The Win: The end is near!

 

 

Skill Builder of the Week

 

Be Brave with Prints & Colour

This week’s Lisbon Organiser workshop showed us that we can throw ‘rules’ out the window and combine as many prints and colours as we wish to create a project.

We combined stripes with florals, polka dots with leopard print, tie-dye with stripes and so many others - the results were all incredible!

It’s easy to stay in our comfort zones by matching all of our fabrics and keeping ‘safe’ colour palettes, but some of the most unique, beautiful pieces come from taking risks.

If you’ve been playing it safe, this may be your sign to just give it a go and try something different.

You could even dive into your scrap bin, get some decent sized pieces and put them all together:

- Try putting colours together you wouldn’t normally.
- Mix 2 or 3 prints you love together
- Choose a main fabric and build around it.

Just experiment. Not every combination will work, but just go with the flow.

You may just create your best piece ever!

Emmi made these gorgeous pair of trainers with bright pink shoelaces! 😍

She got the kit from Sneaker Kit and got the fabric, a cotton poplin, from Rainbow Fabrics.

Emmi says her fingers were sore by the end, but the result is worth it! 🤭
