‘My Sewing Journal’s are out now!

I did my first postal drop for ‘My Sewing Journal’s! 😃
I loved wrapping them up all in pink and getting them ready for posting.
Your feedback has been amazing and I have loved seeing the entries you have been making. The ways you are interpreting it are amazing and it truly shows that each of our journeys are unique. ♥️
Writing about your projects really makes you think more about how you are making and learning from them.

This week’s outdoor adventure was climbing the Devil’s Appendix in Snowdonia National Park. The views were gorgeous, the climb was really nice and the weather was lovely.
We didn’t climb further to Devil’s Kitchen because we thought it wouldn’t be the safest choice for the kids now, but we will be back in a few years when they are older.
Can you find me in this picture? 😅
This week also marked my first 30 minute run! I can’t believe I’ve reached this far, I didn’t actually think the Couch to 5k app would work for me, but it did.

The release of this pattern is coming up very soon! 🎉
I love all the patterns I’ve released but this one holds a special place with it being my first design ever.
I am just so excited about this one!
Every single one I have made and seen being made has come out gorgeous. The fabric combinations are endless making every single one really unique.
It is perfect to use up scraps of fabric that you may be keeping for a future project - this is the one they have been waiting for!
And there is space for customization.
The handles are optional and just by lengthening them, you can use it as a handbag or crossbody bag.
And you can experiment with fabrics for the exterior like I did with the teddy boucle on my most recent one. Maybe denim, or velvet, or brocade. I may even try these all (after I get my gala and wedding guest outfit out the way 😅).
All that’s missing for the release is getting nice photos for the website. I hope to squeeze that in this week as the kids are still on school holidays.
Summer Lee - Surf Wax Socks from The Sock Project book
Guys! We are done! 🎉🎉
I still need to do some finishing touches like weaving in all the ends and blocking them, but this one felt never-ending!
I am happy they are done, they look alright, but my colour combos weren’t the best. I also think that the chevron stitch is not my thing.
I’m glad I tried it though, but now I know that I’m not likely to tackle a project that has this design.
Yarn: Drops Fabel, yarn I got from Portugal and Hobbii Silly Socks Flower Pop in colour 10 (Forget-Me-Not)
Size: L for the leg and reduced to an M for the foot.
Needle Size: I cast on with a 2.5mm and then transferred to 2.25mm.
The Win: Finito!!!
The Drama: These are my least favourite pair of socks.
Jamie Dorfman - Lily Cardigan from Fast and Fabulous Knits Book
Since we drove to Wales this week and I only needed to graft the toes on my socks, I decided to start a new project on the road instead.
I had 2 plans in mind: a simple knit pink cardigan or a lace knit burnt orange one.
Of course I went for the one that required more work. 😂
We were on the road for maybe 3-4 hours total, so I managed to knit up to the point where I needed to divide for the armholes.
Then throughout the rest of the week, I picked it up here and there and I think I’m safe to say I’m about halfway done now.
The pattern actually suggests a fluffy yarn, but I didn’t want to use my pink fluffy yarn for this one. So this left me with no other option in my stash but to use the orange one.
It is turning out really nice and is being a welcome break away from socks and tiny stitches.
But I didn’t check my gauge before starting and it looks like it may be coming up small. Even my daughter noticed and asked me why am I knitting something so small. 😂
I’m still not going back, I’m going forward and seeing how it goes. If it does end up being small, I will try and stretch it during the blocking process or, my daughters end up getting a new cardigan.
Yarn: So Crafty Aran Yarn in the colour Plum, but looks nothing like the actual colour of a plum. I would say it’s pumpkin colour or burnt orange.
Size: XS and I must confess I didn’t check my gauge before starting. Just going with the flow. 🙃
Needle Size: 5.5 mm ribbing and 6.5 mm for the main body.
The Win: It’s a breath of fresh air from sock knitting, a little reset.
The Drama: It may be too small. 😬
Skill Builder of the Week
Scared of a certain project?
As human beings we naturally like to stay in our comfort zones. The down side of this is that we don’t get the chance to grow and this applies to all aspects of life, including sewing.
Stop sticking to projects you are comfortable with and challenge yourself a little.
What is holding you up? Zips, buttons, curves, collars, trousers, certain fabric bases?
Whatever it is, include it in your next project.
Take your time, read instructions and work your way through it. If you need to take 7 days to complete a step, then let it be, no one is pressuring you but yourself.
Just go for it! 💪
