The Sewn at Midnight Gala was amazing!

Hello, hello!

OMG! What an evening we had! It couldn’t have gone any better!

Everyone went through so much effort with their outfits, they all looked amazing! 

From sequins to lace to satin, there was a little bit of everything.

We had a couple people who had made their first ever dress for the gala, and for another, their dress was the second item they’d ever sewn! WOW!

There were so many different styles of outfits too and we asked everyone to describe their outfit in one word.

Here are some of those words:

- Fantasy dreams
- Heaven
- Couture
- Medieval
- Butterfly-tastic 
- Sleep-deprivation
- Unpicker

These were so fun to read out along with a description everyone gave of their outfits. Everyone braved the stage to show off their gorgeous masterpieces, it was lovely to see everyone have fun!

A big thank you to Janome for continuously supporting all my adventures, including the gala, and giving out the most generous prize ever! 

They gave the Best Overall outfit the AT2000D Overlocker and a 1-2-1 lesson at Janome on how to use it! This is such an amazing prize and having used one of these, it is a dream to sew with! (Just a curiosity, all the rolled hems on the bows that were on the chairs and tables were done with this machine. 😀)

Vliesilene sponsored The Best Creative outfit with a generous package of their products valued at £100. The prize includes Style-Vil, Bondaweb, H640, wadding, Thermolam, Embroidery set and more!

Leon’s Fabrics sponsored The Best Show Stopper outfit with a generous £100 voucher to be spent in store.

In the lead up to the gala, we had a fabric shopping day at Leon’s as part of one of the events, and half the room was dressed in fabric from there, some of which I had cut myself! It was lovely to see it all in action.

The added bonus was nobody left empty handed. Everybody got a goodie bag filled with lots of goodies from more amazing sponsors, including yours truly! ♥️

Everyone got a BeeSilva ‘My Sewing Journal’, lots of Vlieseline goodies, Prym gadgets and a voucher to spend at Higgs&Higgs.

Plus two random bags had an extra gift inside. One bag had a £50 voucher to spend at William Gee and another had a prize of 3m of fabric and a pdf pattern from the Fabric Godmother Collection.

We had an amazing round of sponsors and I am so grateful for all of their support.

We also had the amazing Luke-Matthew, a brilliant creative, winner of the GBSB in 2024, who shared an eye-opening insight into what creativity actually means. It really got everyone thinking about how they view themselves creatively.

I also received a gift from everyone which I did not expect at all! I got flowers and a £100 voucher to spend at Maison Fauve from the gorgeous community of sewists that I call my friends.

It was an amazing evening and everyone was asking for next year's date, so I guess that means we will be back with another Sewn at Midnight Gala in 2027! 🎉

P.S. I finished my dress the night before, so plenty of time to spare! 😂

 

Stitches of the Week

 

BeeSilva - Sewn at Midnight Gala Outfit

I felt a million bucks wearing my sequin dress!

I am so happy that I finished it in time and it came out how I had envisioned.

Just the cowl back was missing, but I ended up liking it more with the halter back, so I am very pleased with it.

The lining though, not so much! 😂

I didn’t have time to properly finish it.

I didn’t hem it but it’s a jersey fabric and it won’t fray. But I also didn’t straighten the bottom, the side seams are mismatched by about an inch. 😂

It didn’t affect the dress or its wearability so I let it go for now.

I am also very happy that I managed to make my neck tie/scarf. I was originally going to put it in the neckband, but the sequins were quite heavy and a tie would just pull it down.

I ended up making it separately which means that I can wear it with other outfits or in different ways if I want to.

It’s amazing what a few darts can help you achieve in altering a pattern because that’s all I did! I used the Freya top from Tilly and The Buttons and turned it into a halter neck, lengthened the skirt straight down and added a little ‘train’ at the back.

All in all, it turned out amazing!

Materials: Stretch sequin and a jersey from my stash for the lining.

Size: Started as a size 3 for bust and waist, graded to a 4 for hips.

The Drama: The lining doesn’t look as good as the outside.

The Win: I loved weaning it! But I don’t know where I can wear it next. The school run? The shops? A Sew&Bond™? 😂
