Sewing on Holiday

Sewing on Holiday

Bianca Silva

Hello, hello!

We are 4 days into our holiday!

The weather has been really nice and hot, we’ve been to the beach and swimming pool everyday and we’ve been eating lots of delicious food!

I’ve been to my local beach (when I used to live here) and I went for a swim and all.

It’s been years since I’ve been for a swim in the sea and it was really nice!

The sewing machine made it safely here. I brought it as hand luggage with no issues.

Through security it was pulled for extra screening because they couldn’t really understand what it all was on the screen, so the bag needed to be opened and it was also swabbed for explosives.

At my father-in-law’s house, I use the dining room space to set it up when I have a little bit of time and it’s been up and running a couple of times.

I’ve finished a top I brought (N6518 below) and started on a Tilly and The Buttons Leah. It’s my 3rd version of this pattern already!

I can’t remember ever making so many of the same pattern in such a short time.

I cut a total of 3 projects to bring with me because that was all the time I had for before coming, and 2 of them are Leah’s.

The third is the Matchy Matchy Ballet Bow Skirt which I’m really excited about too.

I’m making a Leah top and this skirt as a coord.

I’ve never made coord’s but look at me making 2 for my holidays!

Well, second set is still in the making.😂

Stitches of the Week

New Look 6518

This set was intended for my holidays, but I didn’t finish in time. So I brought them with and finished them here.

All that was left was to stitch on the ditch to secure the lining and the buttons.

According to the pattern, one of the back panels overlaps the other so the buttons can go through the buttonholes.

Mine didn’t work out like.🫠

So instead of unpicking it all, I decided to add loops for the buttons.

I cut a piece of fabric on the bias, folded the edges in like binding and topstitched it. Then I cut it into 3 pieces and stitched it to one of the back panels.

I think it looks quite nice, I just need to see if it really works when worn.

Materials: Poly black and cream gingham from Leon’s Fabrics

Size: Top - size 6, trousers - size 10

The Drama: I’m questioning my choice of fabric (polyester) for thos weather. Time will tell.

The Win: They are finished and I am quite certain they are my first coord set I’ve made.😱

Summer Lee - Soma Socks from The Sock Project book

I started a new pair of socks!🧦

I was indecisive for a minute about what to bring on holidays, socks or a vest, but ultimately went for the socks.

They are a lot smaller to carry around and I have lots of sock yarn I would like to get through.

The yarn I chose is not my favourite combo but I want to use more of what I have and buy less of what I want.

The yarn itself is lovely and I thought about using a solid colour for the toes, heel and cuff, but I packed our bags for four of us for 3 weeks the night before.

I was still winding my yarn at 10pm to bring with me, so it was too much for me to spend more time deciding what colour accent to pair with it.

The design details do get lost on this yarn, and I definitely knew there was a chance before starting them, but you know when you just have to try and see for yourself?

This was one of those moments.

According to the instructions, I am finished with the leg part and I can start the heel flap, but I’m going to go on for maybe another inch before moving on to the next bit.

I want a bit more sock on my leg.

Yarn: King Cole Zig Zag in colour Berries

Size: Started with an L for the legs.

Needle Size: Cast on with 2.5mm, knit one row and transferred to 2.25mm for the rest.

The Drama: the design details are lost in the yarn.

The Win: I like the deep cuff.😍
